Content Director

The Content Director at Yakkety Yak is responsible for the creative storytelling around our art and creative writing teams. A seasoned and strategic storyteller, you will act as a central leader of an interdisciplinary content team, while collaborating on cross-functional team content creation.

The Yakkety Yak Content Director  is responsible for overseeing the strategic creation of content copy and graphic deliverables from organic social media, blog articles and newsletters to website copy, and paid ad development. From managing a team of art directors and content editors, you will also help delegate overflow to freelancers, holding the team accountable for budget, work quality and project timelines.

As a stickler for process, and a creative mind who thrives in a fast-paced environment, you will help raise the bar of the agency through thought leadership, process management and creative implementation. But you also aren’t afraid to get in the trenches to perfect a blog, edit a newsletter, or review content, or even create a graphic from a template to help support the team in getting the job done.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will contribute in the following areas:

  • Oversee process and creative execution
  • Roll up your sleeves and contribute to the creative process as needed. This is not a hands-off company. We all contribute to the day-to-day.
  • Oversee strategic implementation of company initiatives, ranging from ongoing content work to launching digital campaigns, website development and new client acquisition.
  • Work alongside accounts team to gather business requirements and translate them into effective, user-centered creative content.
  • Develop content strategies to guide production and identify potential issues and risks for overall project timing and quality.
  • Review performance across all digital channels.
  • Integrate best practices of paid search and social media.
  • Push our teams and our projects to new heights.
  • Spot issues before they turn into problems.
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging trends and practices.
  • Contribute to scoping work and budget development, working alongside VP of Accounts.
  • Delegate assignments to internal and freelance content editors, copywriters, art directors and graphic designers to serve multiple departments.
  • Provide meaningful and insightful feedback to advance the team.
  • Contribute to client pitches.
  • Help guide creative direction for client projects from concept to completion.
  • Collaborate with Writers, Content Strategists, Video Producers, Web Developers and Account Managers to ensure all assignments are on-brand and client deadlines are met.
  • Incorporate current design trends into each unique layout to produce an up-to-date style for custom content that is optimized for each platform.

What You Bring

Our expectations for the candidate include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of relevant experience; agency or newsroom experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of SEO principles, strategy, and execution.
  • Willingness to stay up to speed with content management programs such as WordPress, Pardot, and HubSpot.
  • You are a risk-taker and digital innovator.
  • A thorough understanding of digital content strategy and its role in the digital customer experience ecosystem.
  • The ability to generate and expand project requirements and identify the right solutions to meet them.
  • Detail-oriented; productive without compromising quality.
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize to meet daily deadlines and capable of operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Triple threat: Ability to strategize, edit and design.
  • Exceptional writing and editing abilities, including proficiency in AP Style.
  • Professional design expertise, including ability to navigate platforms such as the Adobe Suite and Canva.
  • Excellent time management, problem-solving and organizational skills.

Technical Expectations

  • HubSpot Inbound Certification (upon start date)
  • Experience creating engaging content for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest
  • Understanding of SEO and how to write search-worthy content
  • WordPress and Squarespace knowledge
  • Email automation in platforms including Constant Contact, MailChimp and HubSpot
